DRIVING SIGNATURE
The shape of their driving, measured corner by corner against the rest of the grid.
SIGNATURE PENDING
Official timing telemetry covers Formula 1 from 2018 onwards, and a signature needs at least five sessions in one regulation era. Earlier careers will come from the onboard vision pipeline.

SCOUTING REPORT
How they set up the car, and the style that emerged from it.
THE REPORT
Rosberg's technical advantage over Hamilton resided in one specific sector type: medium-to-high speed corners where smooth steering inputs preserved front tyre temperatures across the entry arc. His braking-to-rotation sequence was less aggressive than Hamilton's in hairpins — he conceded time in the late-braking zones — but in the Maggotts-Becketts and Pouhon-style complexes his minimum corner speed was occasionally comparable or superior, reflecting the different tyre loading profiles of their techniques. The qualifying gap between them averaged 0.10–0.15 seconds over a lap across their 2016 head-to-head data — narrow enough to be closed by circuit type, tyre specification, or minor performance items.
His 2016 title campaign was the result of deliberate, constructed pressure rather than an explosion of pace. He won the first four races, establishing a psychological credit he drew on for the rest of the season. Even when Hamilton closed the points gap from August onward, Rosberg consistently converted second places from race situations where Hamilton was faster — a championship-level patience in points accumulation that had not been visible in his earlier Mercedes years, when the tendency to take wheel-to-wheel risks had produced incidents at Monaco and Spa that cost him points. The 2016 version was calmer, more clinical, and more effective.
His retirement announcement five days after winning the title was unique at this level of sport. He had prepared his entire career around the goal of one world championship — studying Hamilton's strengths systematically, responding to each with specific training and preparation, and winning by 5 points on the last race of the season. Once achieved, there was no further mountain. His decision to retire rather than defend the title is arguably the most rational decision any driver has made in the sport's history — executed entirely on his own terms.
