THE REPORT

Bortoleto's back-to-back F3/F2 titles put him in a select group alongside Leclerc, Russell, and Piastri. His 2023 F3 championship with Trident — a team with significantly fewer resources than Prema — was the more revealing of the two: he extracted maximum performance from a car that lacked the development bandwidth of the championship favourite, requiring a driver to compensate for mechanical shortfalls through technique rather than exploiting a tool advantage. His entry technique appears to favour mild-rotation setups where he can carry speed through mid-corner without relying on the rear-end responsiveness that a better-prepared car would provide.

In F2 with Invicta Racing in 2024, his championship management under pressure from Hadjar and Pepe Martí in the closing rounds showed tactical maturity beyond a single-season driver. He won under conditions that required understanding tyre behaviour on a compound degrading differently from his rivals — in a spec series, this means the variable is entirely driver input quality. His qualifying pace was consistently in the top three, suggesting his entry aggression can scale when the car is capable of supporting it.

His F1 transition to Sauber/Audi in 2025 placed him in machinery that was not competitive enough to display his potential without context. The adaptation curve was expected — F1 tyre sensitivity at race distance is categorically different from F2 — and his second-half 2025 improvement in race management was measurable. The Audi project's long-term positioning means the development window is years, not months, which suits a driver whose qualities show most over a sustained arc.
